About me…

I often joke that, as an advisor, I get to relive college without homework or tuition fees (lucky me!). One of my passions is helping people be their best selves and I strive to always provide accurate and highly-personalized advising. My goal is to challenge and empower students to step out of their comfort zone, consider new perspectives, question everything (respectfully), and live true to their passions and values. I am grateful that many students include me in shaping their university experiences and allow me to share in the victory of overcoming obstacles as well as the celebration of their successes. I am constantly participating in discovery, exploring the world, and gaining new understanding through the authenticity of my students' reflections. Witnessing the phenomenal growth and learning students achieve when they push themselves and engage in meaningful reflection further convinces me that what you get out of an experience is often directly proportional to what you invest in it.

Though I was raised in a military family and have lived all over the United States, my family settled in Dayton, Ohio, in 2000. In 2009, I wed my high school sweetheart and partner in life, Justin Kennard. We currently reside in Liberty Township, Ohio, and, in May of 2013, expanded our family to include our perfect daughter (I may be a little biased). I enjoy opportunities to spend quality time with family and friends, read, travel, play card and board games, cook, watch television, and be active outdoors. I believe that joy exists everywhere and try to cherish the moments in which I find it (or it finds me). Though I am aware of how vast the world is, I am constantly reminded of how small it can seem when human beings interact and influence one another.

My background includes work in career exploration, teaching, first-year and transfer orientation, and a heavy emphasis on academic advising. In the fall of 2012, I transitioned to the University Honors Program University from my role as an advisor in the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences. Prior to that, I worked at University of Maryland, College Park, where I advised engineering students.

I strongly support students' holistic development (academic and personal) and am a trained Safe Zone Ally.  In the University Honors Program, I advise students in the Connections Dual Admissions (BS/MD) Program, the College of Pharmacy, and STEMM majors within the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences. Feel free to make an appointment or stop by so we can get to know one another better!
