Leadership

Develop a vision for the future and organize your peers around it, regardless of any formal title you may or may not have.  Learn about various leadership theories and reflect upon leader characteristics you find within yourself.  How will you leave a legacy and change the world?

We strongly encourage you to craft a vision for what you want to achieve and to work towards it, to identify others who you can engage with in order to make your vision a reality and to stretch yourself as a leader.

Learning Outcomes

  • Possesses knowledge of various leadership theories and identifies with the characteristics of leadership
  • Identifies the various characteristics of a leader in a given situation/role
  • Has the ability to relate, communicate and work effectively with peers
  • Develops a vision of the future and acknowledges the impact of decisions (as applicable to the individual and affiliated organizations)

Points to Consider While Writing Your Proposal

  • Abstract - When articulating about your time commitment, in addition to time spent in meetings and events, think about time spent in preparation and planning as well.
  • Connection to Academic Theories - Think about what leadership theory or theories fit best with the experience. When connecting the theory to the experience, be sure to talk about what the theory is and how you hope to apply it.
  • Budget - UHP can only provide grant funding for your direct costs for participating in the experience, we cannot provide grants to cover general costs for an organization or an event (such as team uniforms, group registration, or space reservation fees)
