University Common Reading

In fall semester 2013, the University of Cincinnati introduced a common reading for all first year students. The book being used for all incoming first-year students fall 2015 is titled The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore. You will recieve your copy of the common read book at Bearcats Bound Orientation.

The University of Cincinnati common reading provides students an opportunity to read, reflect, discuss and interact with their peers. By engaging in meaningful discussions with others, you will be able to begin the reflection cycle and better understand why others have the opinions they do. This provides a space for all of our students to find commonalities across majors, colleges, and backgrounds.

Students are encouraged to explore the publisher web page for links to media, reviews, and discussions. The University Honors Program has also accumulated resources which are located below.

Wes Moore will be coming to UC in October to be the keynote speaker at 30th Annual Student Leadership Conference. To find out more and to register, visit the SLC website:

Above is a short video introducing the book from Random House Publishing, narrated by the author Wes Moore.
Wes Moore was invited to give a talk about this book at The Aspen Ideas Festival in 2011. During the twenty minute speech, he discusses the factors that can dictate the way our narratives unfold.
