SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION-DISTRICT 1199 (SEIU-1199)


The Choice Benefits program is a partnership between UC and its employees. We do everything we can to provide you with high-quality benefits at a reasonable cost to you and the university.

Employees represented by SEIU-1199 and have an FTE of 80% or greater may enroll in Choice Benefits, the benefit program offered by the University of Cincinnati.  Included in this package are the core benefits of medical, dental, and life insurance for you and your eligible family members. 

You may also take advantage of long term disability,  tuition remission, long term care, and flexible spending accounts. The university works diligently to offer high-quality benefits to you and your family.


MEDICAL INSURANCE

Medical coverage pays benefits for eligible medical expenses. The Choice Benefits program offers you two excellent medical plans, the health maintenance organization (HMO) and the point-of-service (POS). These plan options give you the flexibility to tailor a benefits package that meets your individual or your family’s needs. Information regarding the HMO and POS plans is available in the SEIU Enrollment Workbook.  The Medical Coverage Comparison section in the workbook summarizes the benefits available under each medical plan. For more detailed information about your medical plan review the HMO Plan Document or the POS Plan Document.

DENTAL INSURANCE

Dental coverage helps you and your covered family members pay for eligible dental expenses.  The Choice Benefits program offers you a selection among Basic, Ortho, High and the High Ortho Plans.  The Dental Coverage Comparison Chart in the SEIU Enrollment Workbook provides summaries of each dental plan. For more detailed information on benefits available under the dental plans you should review the Dental Plan Document.

LIFE INSURANCE

Life insurance helps protect your family in the event of your death.  Choice Benefits offers you the security of knowing your family has financial protection. Life insurance is the foundation of any financial protection strategy and our plan gives you the opportunity to tailor your choices to meet your needs with a variety of different levels of coverage. Also available is life insurance coverage for your dependents.  Information is available in the SEIU Enrollment Workbook that explains your options for employee, spouse, and child life insurance.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE (PAI)

Personal Accident Insurance provides you or your family with a benefit if a covered person dies as the result of an accident.  This insurance also pays a partial benefit for the loss of a limb or eyesight as the result of an accident. Your beneficiary under this coverage is the same beneficiary you named for your employee life insurance. For more information on Personal Accident Insurance, refer to your SEIU Enrollment Workbook

LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD)

Long-term Disability (LTD) Insurance pays you a benefit if your are unable to work because of a disabling injury or illness.  Benefits continue until you recover and return to work, or until you reach the plan's age limit. Accidents and illnesses can have serious financial consequences for you and your family. That's why we believe it's important to provide financial protection to you at a reasonable cost. The LTD Coverage Comparison later in the SEIU Enrollment Workbook summarizes the features of your LTD plans.

65% of your base pay (up to $4,000/month) after 4 months of total disability

TUITION REMISSION

The Tuition Remission Program enables you and your eligible dependents to benefit from the many educational opportunities offered by the University. If you take advantage of this program, you will not pay tuition for university coursework; however you will pay any extra fees, such as late fees or room and board. (Read more)
