  • Jim Tucker, UC associate vice president for administrative services, was featured in the July 2000 edition of the magazine, which is a supplement to American School and University. Tucker talked about energy conservation measures at UC which save about $8 million a year.

    Alumni making news
  • Becky Ruehl, a graduate earlier this year from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, was the subject of a column about her diving career in the Los Angeles Times. Ruehl retired from diving after finishing second at the U.S. Summer Nationals meet earlier this summer. In 1996, she finished fourth in the platform diving competition at the Atlanta Olympic games.

  • Tommy Casanova, a graduate of the UC College of Medicine, was featured in Sports Illustrated's "Catching Up With..." column. Casanova was an all-pro safety with the Bengals while in Cincinnati and now lives in his native Louisiana, where he is an ophthalmic surgeon who just completed his career as a state senator.

  • Phillip S. Schaengold has been named vice president, operations, of the St. Louis market of Tenet Healthcare Corp. and chief executive officer of St. Louis University Hospital. Schaengold received a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and a master's of business administration from UC.

  • James Cashman, president and CEO of ANSYS, Inc., was featured in a Q&A column in Design News. Cashman holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from UC, as well as an MBA.

  • Subhadra "Su" Gupta, who holds both a master's degree in physics and a doctorate in applied physics from UC, has been named director of technology for KDF Electronic and Vacuum Services, Inc. KDF produces original and remanufactured batch inline-sputtering tools for the mainstream silicon, emerging materials and flat-panel display markets.
