| Johnnie Cochran Speaks at African American Leadership Conference
From: University of Cincinnati Currents Date: February 25, 2000 Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., one of the nation's most prominent criminal defense attorneys and attorney in the well-known O.J. Simpson criminal trial, will be the keynote speaker at UC's 11th annual African American Leadership Conference. The conference will be held May 5 at the Albert B. Sabin Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati. The conference is sponsored by UC's College of Evening and Continuing Education (CECE) and features sessions on issues affecting African Americans. The theme for this year's conference is "Developing Leaders in Corporate America." UC faculty and the community's African American leaders will not only explore how to advance in corporate America, but will also focus on health issues affecting African Americans. Motivational sessions will provide ideas on how to overcome today's challenges in society. Cochran addressed the conference two years ago and drew a record turnout of more than 700 people. Velta Kelly-Foster, CECE assistant dean of continuing education, says evaluations from those conference-goers held an overwhelmingly positive response to Cochran's last appearance. His topic for this conference is "Justice in America." Registration costs $159 per person and is open to the public. Organizations sending parties of 10 or more people will receive a 10 percent discount on registration.
