"Take Our Daughters to Work Day" 2000 at the University of Cincinnati opened with bright sunshine and bright faces as more than 400 employees brought their children to work with them. The UC event was coordinated by Robin Arnsperger in the UC Women's Center and Katie McCabe (below left), a UC senior and a communications intern. McCabe served as public relations director.

Melinda Curran (right), a 12-year-old in 6th grade at Guardian Angels School in Mt. Washington, helped to cover the event by taking digital photographs and interviewing students and their parents.

Kara attends Springdale Elementary, but today received an impromptu soccer less on McMicken Commons from her father. The Hendersons were among the hundreds who signed up for a free pizza lunch served on the green from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 27.

Other activities included a football throwing contest featuring a Bearcat backboard. Many departments and colleges set up information booths, so the young ladies could learn about potential careers.

One of the most eye-catching came from the construction science department in the College of Applied Science. It featured models of construction projects, heavy equipment, and the chance to climb inside a safety harness used to protect workers when they're on the job. The harness is required whenever a worker is more than six feet off the ground. Nine-year-old Elizabeth Kauth (far right), a fourth grader from New Richmond Elementary, jumped at the chance to try out the equipment with the help of construction management junior Lynelle Gremban. Kauth is the daughter of clinical veterinarian Jane Goecke.
