UC's one-year MBA (Master of Business Administration) program was recently featured. The magazine surveyed members of UC's first graduating class and reported that the return on investment as significant: UC graduates earned back their tuition investment in less than three years and doubled their salaries within four years. Roger Daniels, professor of history, was interviewed for
NPR's All
Things Considered about U.S. immigration policy and
how it might
affect the case of Elian Gonzalez.
NPR's Performance Today highlighted the work of UC piano professor Richard Morris, playing Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata using the "WAPIN bridge" technology developed at UC. The classical music peformance was one of the most frequently downloaded selections (over 350,000 hits) from the web site MP3.com in 1999.

Daniel Nebert and Michael Carvan, both of
environmental health, were quoted in a story about their program to develop
transgenic zebrafish as a detection system for certain water pollutants. The
article also appeared in Newsday.

Nan Adler of UC's University College was quoted in an article
about efforts to create learning
communities.
Chicago Sun-Times
Electronic artist Ben Britton, associate professor of fine art, was quoted in an article about
the future of athletics. Changes that are coming, according to
Britton, include virtual reality boxing and tennis matches; cameras on the helmets of football
players; and software that allows you to "virtually inhabit" your
favorite athlete.
Chronicle of Higher Education
The premiere publication about higher education reported on the
recent upgrade of UC's bond rating by Moody's Investors Service
from A1 to Aa3.
Scripps Howard News Service
Duncan Irschick, post-doctoral researcher in biology, was quoted in
coverage of the controversy between creationists and those who
believe in evolution. Irschick authored a protest letter to
Kansas authorities that was signed by 322 scientists
addressing the decision to remove mention of macro-evolution from
that state's curriculum and standardized tests.
Cleveland Plain Dealer
Eric Cline, classics, was quoted in a story
about his archaeological work at Megiddo in Israel, also known
as the biblical Armageddon. The story also appeared in
the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and France's International Herald
Tribune. Scripps Howard News Service also picked up an article on
Cline and his work Megiddo, which appeared in the Chattanooga,
Tenn., Free Press.
Columbus Dispatch
The paper reported the appointment by Ohio Governor
Bob Taft of Dr. Anant Ram Bhati, MD, a gynecologist and clinical
instructor at UC, to the UC Board of Trustees.
Gannett News Service
George Vredeveld of UC's Center for Economic
Education, was quoted on income growth inequality
during a period of economic expansion.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Paula Hillard of UC's College of Medicine, was quoted in a story about the
risks of too-rapid births that occur before the mother has time to get to a hospital.
Alumni making news:
Christopher Schuttera, a designer for DaimlerChrysler whograduated from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and
Planning just two years ago, was lauded for his design of the Howler, a concept
vehicle the company showcased at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. The
Howler melds DaimlerChrysler's popular performance roadster, the Prowler, with
a pickup bed.
Ron Palma, a UC graduate and teacher in Tulsa, Okla., is the first-ever recipient of a
national award in pre-collegiate teaching from the American
Philological Association, a group composed of a national society
of college and university professors in Latin and Greek, along
with the American Classical League, which is made up of secondary
school teachers of classics.
Jeffrey Stout, a UC graduate, has been named
dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Palm Beach Atlantic College
in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Mary Pat Bowles, a graduate of UC's speech
pathology program, was honored by the Orlando Sentinel with that
paper's Teacher of the Week award. Bowles teaches second grade at
Stenstrom Elementary School in Oviedo, Fla.
