Cincinnati -- The University of Cincinnati's E-Week 2000 will focus on 100 years of engineering past as UC's College of Engineering celebrates "Olde E-Week" Feb. 21-25.
The week of contests kicks off Monday, Feb. 21 and includes traditional favorites such as a calculator toss, egg drop contest, and tricycle races.
But the new millennium will also see the debut of some new events. President Joseph A. Steger has been invited to kick off a Presidential Driving contest on the Baldwin Quad 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24. Even Tiger Woods would find this event challenging. Each golfer is restricted to using a child's plastic golf set.
Even the Tribunal's annual charity events have changed for E-Week 2000. In addition to the traditional canned food drive and blood drive, the engineers are also hosting "Penny Wars." A series of large jugs sits outside the tribunal offices on the 6th floor of Baldwin. Each jar is marked with a particular discipline's name. Dropping in pennies is a vote for that discipline. Silver coins and dollar bills are "negative votes," and E-Week chair Jacob Crosthwaite encourages everyone on campus to vote as many times as they like.
