| General Education Teams Geared Up For Busy Spring
From: University of Cincinnati Currents Date: March 3, 2000 By: Dawn Fuller Phone: (513) 556-1823 Archive: Campus News Plans are taking shape to revise the General Education initiative as a faculty oversight committee continues to meet on a weekly basis. Committee chair Ann Twinam said the panel is finishing an overarching guideline for revisions and this work will be complete by the end of the winter quarter. She added that the proposal recognizes the complexity and diversity of the different colleges. "This is probably the most high-powered committee I have ever worked with during my 25 years at UC," said Twinam. "Everyone contributed in substantial ways to the final product. The next step will be to share our work and revise it according to input from the General Education Task Force and the colleges and faculty." A General Education task force including representatives from all colleges, professional practice and the libraries has been elected and will begin working early in spring quarter. This task force will help in revisions and lead a General Education implementation process that will be centered in the colleges. Twinam noted that most of the courses developed for General Education will be included in the revised initiative, but added, "I think one of the things we learned from the General Education review was that there were many other courses and experiences at UC that also fulfilled the spirit and goals of General Education." The revised General Education initiative must be in place for the university to report full assessment and implementation by 2003. |
