The All-University Commencement will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 9 in the Shoemaker Center and live on the World Wide Web. The 1999 commencement ceremonies were videotaped and then replayed on the Web. This year, the Office of Information Technologies (UCit) and the College-Conservatory of Music's Electronic Media Division have combined forces to provide live coverage through UC's streaming video web site

The Class of 2000 will hear Ohio Governor and UC alumnus Bob Taft deliver the Commencement address. The student orator will be Jeffery Morgan, an architecture graduate from DAAP. Morgan's talk is "UC: Under Construction." He said he hopes to draw parallels between the Campus Master Plan projects reshaping UC and the way individuals can reshape their lives.

Honorary degrees will be awarded to:

  • Bob Taft, Honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of numerous contributions to the health and welfare of humanity throughout a remarkable career of public service

  • Cincinnati Pops conductor Erich Kunzel, Honorary Doctor of Performing Arts in recognition of unparalleled accomplishment in music and dedication as a champion of music education

  • Retired UC trustee and Cincinnati Herald publisher Marjorie B. Parham, Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in recognition of pioneering efforts in publishing while safeguarding the spirit and values on humankind

  • Retired UC trustee and chairman and CEO of DLZ Corporation Vikram V. Rajadhyaksha, Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in recognition of providing significant expertise to the UC as the institution revitalized its physical plant

  • Wedbush Morgan Securities Inc. president and chief executive Edward W. Wedbush, Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science in recognition of financial, corporate development and business acumen, and dedication to his alma mater.

Over 4,000 academic degrees will be awarded at Commencement, beginning with the doctoral hooding ceremony at 9 a.m. in the Shoemaker Center. Individual college recognition ceremonies and additional information can be found at www.uc.edu/commencement/
