The University of Cincinnati's 11 sororities and 23 fraternities are gearing up for Greek
Week May 20-26, when members of the Greek organizations use their talent,
speed and skill to compete in events that range from the athletic to the bizarre.
Greek Week is a time for UC's sororities and fraternities to celebrate the social and
philanthropic opportunities that are available to all members of Greek organizations.
Each competition awards points to the winner. The fraternity and sorority that tally up
the most points by week's end will be the grand champions.
Here's a preview of what's in store at the Greek Games, as well as some events
leading up to the competitions:
Sunday, May 14
2-4 p.m., Zimmer Auditorium. Mother's Day sing. The
Greeks hold a special event just for Mom. Sororities and Fraternities compete for the
best presentation as each organization performs a song.
Saturday, May 20
7-10 p.m., Brodie Plaza (roof of Zimmer Auditorium). Sigma
Sigma Carnival. The public is invited as student organizations staff booths featuring
games and prizes. Food and refreshments will be available. Admission is
free.
Sunday, May 21
9 a.m.- 3 p.m., Triangle House, 2625 University Court.
Triangle and Kappa Delta "Sand-Aid." Teams of fraternities and sororities pay an entry
fee to compete in this sand volleyball tournament, with proceeds benefiting the Kappa
Delta's philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America.
Monday, May 22
11 a.m.-2 p.m., McMicken Commons. March of Dimes Jail
Bail. Members of the Greek community are "arrested" and in order to get out of jail at
McMicken Commons, they need to raise bail money. The fund-raiser benefits the March
of Dimes.
7 p.m., Zimmer Auditorium. Lip-sync competition. They don't need a
great voice, but they need a savvy routine, as the Greeks dance and lip-sync to the tune
of their choice. This event is expected to last approximately two
hours.
Tuesday, May 23
2 p.m., Pi Kappa Alpha house, 3400 Brookline Ave. Water
volleyball competition.
7:30- 9 p.m., Zimmer Auditorium. National speaker Andrea Cooper
presents "Kristin's Story: A Story of Date Rape and Depression." In the mid '90s, Andrea
Cooper's 20-year-old daughter Kristin shot and killed herself at their Colorado home.
Through Kristen's diary, Cooper later discovered her daughter had become depressed
after she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance. In an effort to raise awareness about
date rape, Cooper has toured college campuses, telling her daughter's
story.
Wednesday, May 24
11 a.m.-2 p.m., McMicken Commons. Greeks collect used
clothing to benefit local charities.
1 p.m., McMicken Commons. Coney-eating contest. The fraternity and
sorority that eats the most coneys in the shortest amount of time wins the
contest.
Thursday, May 25
2 p.m., Alpha Tau Omega house, 319 Probasco St. Slam
dunk contest. Fraternities and sororities will be judged on the difficulty and style of their
slam dunks. Event is expected to last approximately one hour.

is expected to last approximately one hour.
Friday, May 26

team member's head; the human pyramid, a competition to build the fastest pyramid of
10 members; the slip-n-slide, a contest to see who can slide the farthest; and the "dizzy
bat," which requires team members to place their forehead on the end of a baseball bat
and do five spins before they run a relay race.
