All-time UC great Oscar Robertson congratulated
current UC senior Kenyon Martin in Indianapolis last week after
Martin was awarded the Oscar Robertson Trophy, presented annually
by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) to the
nation's men's college basketball player of the year.
Martin is the only UC player to win the USBWA player of the year honor besides Robertson, who won it in 1959 and again in 1960. "Since he's the first player from UC to win the award in 40 years, it means a lot to me personally to share the honor with another Bearcat," Robertson said. Martin has now won three of the four major player of the year awards this year - the Naismith Award, the Oscar Robertson Trophy and Associated Press player of the year. The winner of the final honor, the Wooden Award, is to be announced Friday in Los Angeles. Check out the Bearcat Sports site for more. |
