Paul Caron, College of Law, was quoted on the front page about what tax law
professionals do now that the April tax deadline has passed.

Kurt Sassmannshaus, College-Conservatory of Music, and the Starling Chamber
Orchestra program he oversees were the subject of a story on the front of the
Washington Post's Outlook section. A reporter from the paper followed the orchestra on
tour in China.
BBC radio
Richard Harknett, political science, was interviewed on U.S. political debate
concerning development of the proposed anti-ballistic missile defense system.

A report from the news service showed UC ranking 16th nationally in number of
students from the People's Republic of China during academic year 1998-99.

UC's fashion design program was enthusiastically praised in a feature about a
graduate from the program.
The National Journal
Results from an Ohio Poll looking at the senate race between incumbent Mike
DeWine and challenger Ted Celeste were included in a polling roundup. An Ohio Poll
that looked at the presidential race matchup was also featured in The Washington
Times and the White House Bulletin.

Bob Drake, Education, was quoted in an article about how young children know
how to use math concepts even before they know how to do the math on
paper.

James Schiff, English, reviewed Saul Bellow's latest book,
Ravelstein.

Work by UC fashion design students in preparation for their May fashion show was
prominently featured.
Alumni making news:
Pamela E. Bridgewater, a Danforth fellow who received her master's degree from
UC, has been nominated by President Clinton to the post of ambassador to the Republic
of Benin. Bridgewater has been a member of the Senior Foreign Service for 18
years.
Vinod Dham, who earned his master's degree from the College of Engineering, has
been named by the White House to the Advisory Committee on Asian Americans and
Pacific Islanders. Dham is chairman, president and CEO of Silicon Spice.
1993 architecture graduate Michael Goorevich, project architect with Davison Smith
Certo Architects in Cleveland, recently won the profession's prestigious Rome Prize of
the American Academy in Rome, Italy. A stipend that accompanies the award will allow
Goorevich to spend a year studying at the American Academy. Goorevich's achievement
was reported in The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Ramon Gregory, who holds a bachelor's degree from UC, has been named senior
vice president customer service operations for The Home Depot, the world's largest
home improvement retailer.
Students making news:
Lea Miller, a digital design major, created the winning entry for CHANEL and
Seventeen magazine's fourth annual Colour of the Year contest. Her entry, "Unity,"
shows a bag of soup beans in varying shades of earthtones. According to Miller, her entry
represented the people of Earth mixing together without losing their individual identity.
"Unity" was selected from among thousands of creations narrowed to a field of 20 finalists.
