Greater Cincinnati business and community leaders will find out Monday, April 17 how UC's plans for growth can also help the regional economy grow.

From new ways to design cars to biomedical engineering and the genetic revolution, UC leaders will explore partnerships that have an economic impact during a special conference, "Preparing for the New Millennium," from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westin Hotel downtown.

Don Harrison, senior vice president and provost for health affairs, provided a preview of what's possible during his State of the Medical Center address Tuesday, April 11, when he proposed doubling medical research by 2006. The Medical Center quadrupled its research funding from 1988 to 1999, while adding $1 billion in new facilities and renovations.

Executives from Procter & Gamble, General Motors and Alias/Wavefront will make presentations about their experiences in corporate partnership with UC. Conference participants will also have the chance to discuss the power of partnerships with Gallis and keynote speaker Carl Patton, Georgia State University president and UC alumnus, and with representatives from UC.

For the latest information about the conference, check out the conference web site. For additional information, contact Lillian O'Neill at (513) 556-2018.
