BASKETBALL RIVALS TO SCORE FOR SCHOOLS
IN JAN. 22 CROSSTOWN HELP-OUT

Cincinnati -- Basketball competition turns to cooperation between the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University when "Shootout" rivals team up for the Crosstown Help-Out on Saturday, Jan. 22.

The universities' students, alumni, fans, friends and staff will come together to benefit local urban schools in need of clean-up and basic repairs. Participants will first gather between 8-9 a.m. at UC's Myers Alumni Center before heading out to local schools where they will work from approximately 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Up to 600 volunteers are expected to turn out to help out area schools in Madisonville, Avondale, Newport, Norwood, Northside, Covington and other neighborhoods. The volunteers' schoolwork assignments will include painting, general cleaning of furniture and floors and installing wall cabinets.

Work will be followed by fun in the form of a "Chill and Grill" at UC's alumni center with music, food and raffle prizes that include tickets for next year's Shootout game.

Sponsors for the Crosstown Help-Out are UC, XU, Skyline Chili Inc., Cincinnati Bell, and The Home Depot Inc. To volunteer or for more information, call UC's alumni office at 513-556-4344 or XU's alumni office at 513-745-3081. Volunteers can register online by going to http://www.alumni.uc.edu/helpout.
