How To...  Report Spam or Phishing email

Here is what we are recommending to people to best help fight spam/phishing.

  • If the spam or phishing attempt seems to be coming from UC, or if you have been the victim of a scam, then please alert UC InfoSec at abuse@uc.edu
  • If it is a scam that is coming from outside UC, then please report it directly to the FTC and antiphishing.org (a watchdog group).

In either case, please send the scam message as an attachment to a new email (see below).  If you just "forward" the message, some important information (the orginial email header) is lost.

To report suspicious emails :

  • Create a new mail
  • Address if to reportphishing@antiphishing.org and spam@uce.gov if it is a message from outside UC. Address it to abuse@uc.edu if it came from inside UC.
  • Drag and drop the phishing email from your inbox onto this new email message
       *  In Netscape drop it on the 'attachment' area
  • If you cannot send as an attachment, go ahead and just use "forward".
