How To... Setup your new accounts at UC
Welcome to UC!
At the University of Cincinnati, you can access many services using the same username and password. First, you must set up your security profile, and change your password from the default to one that only you know.
- Your username (or “6+2”) is (probably) the first six letters of your last name followed by your first and middle initials. (There are a few exceptions. If you have no middle initial, or “6+2” would not generate a unique username for you, you will want to contact the UCit Help Desk at 513 556-4357 for assistance.)
- Your default password is:
Uc!mmddyyyy
where mmddyyyy is your full date of birth
remember to use the ! exclamation point and not a 1 or an l
Step 1: Set up your security account
- Before accessing any central service (i.e., any page displaying the CLS graphic, below), you need to change your password from the default and set up your password self service (PSS) profile.

- Access PSS at: https://www.uc.edu/PSS/
- To log in, enter your (“6+2”) username and (Uc!mmddyyyy) password.

Security Questions
- To set up your PSS profile, you provide answers to several security questions so the system can verify your identity whenever you need to reset your password. The system is not case sensitive. The system will encrypt your answers before saving them. The information you provide cannot be read by anyone, including one of the system’s administrators.

Step 2: Change your password
- Having saved your answers to the security questions, click the “Change Password” link on the left side of the screen.
- On the following screen, change your password to something only you know.
Passwords must contain:
- At least one lowercase letter
- At least one uppercase letter
- At least one number
- Must be a minimum length of eight characters
- You may not use any form or part of your name or your username in a password.
- Remember, your default (or “old”) password is:
Uc!mmddyyyy

The "Change Again" link
- If you want to go back and make another change, click the “Change Again” link. Otherwise, ignore it.

Use the UC resources!
- When you change your password using PSS, it is automatically changed for you in many applications.
