How to setup a spam filter for Outlook 2002

Note: These instructions are tweaked for UC. The specific filter shown will not work outside of UC. However these instructions still show the general approach to setting up your own private filters using this email client.
  1. In the Navigation Panel, click Mail
  2. On the Tools menu, click Rules and Alerts
  3. Click New Rule...
  4. Click "Start from a Blank Rule"
  5. Highlight "Check messages when they arrive"
  6. Click on the Next Button
  7. Check "with specific words in the message header"
  8. In the "Rule description" field click on "specific words"
  9. A new window will open up. In the field provided, enter "X-Junkmail: UCE"
  10. Click on the Add button, Click on the OK button
  11. Click on the Next Button

    The rest is user preference but, sample preferences are listed below

  12. Check, "move it to the specified folder"
  13. In the "Rule description" field click on "specific"
  14. A new window will open up. Highlight the folder where you would want the message to be stored
  15. Add any exceptions that you want. This step is not required
  16. Make sure that the rule is turned on. (Click "Turn on this Rule," then "Finish.")
  17. Run the rule against your INBOX. (Click "Run Rules Now")
