Mark Faulkner, Senior AVP of Innovation and Partnerships

Mark has served in a number of technical, management and leadership capacities in his 25+ years with the university. Past responsibilities include leadership and management of the UCIT Office of Information Security (UCIT OIS) prior to the university hiring its first Chief Information Security Officer. In his current service as Associate Vice President of Network & Telecommunication Services he is responsible for the network architecture, engineering, operations and support of the voice, video, data and wireless networks and the related infrastructure at the University of Cincinnati. This includes connectivity to OARnet (State of Ohio ISP) and Internet2 through which UC reaches other national and international research and education networks. The unit is also responsible for messaging (e-mail) and unified communication strategies, operations and support for the institution. In his capacity as Interim AVP for UCIT OIS he is responsible for all aspects of information security management, including but not limited to strategic planning and the architecture and design of information security solutions. Mark is a member of the Ohio Valley Internet2 Consortium, the chair of the Ohio Board of Regents Business and Finance subcommittee, served on the Blue Ribbon Committee for Academic Information Technologies, co-chaired the IT Governance Action Team and serves in a number of other advisory and consultative capacities to other university committees and task forces at UC and the state.

Bogdan "Bo" Vykhovanyuk

Bogdan "Bo" Vykhovanyuk, Associate Director

Bo transitioned to UCIT OIS from the UC Office of Internal Audit (IA). While a member of UC’s IA department Bo created the first UC Information Technology (IT) audit function, established a strategic IT audit mission at the university, developed a five year IT audit plan, and led a number of IT and security audits. Prior to joining UC, Bo enjoyed a career with a Big 4 public accounting firm providing IT audit, security and other consulting services to Fortune 500 companies. He led engagements that varied from audits of internal controls over financial reporting, segregation of duties, pre- and post-system implementation reviews, disaster readiness/recovery assessments, as well as the creation of a compliance department for a major domestic automobile manufacture.

Bo brings a wide range of experience to the UCIT OIS department and is responsible for day-to-day team management, cyber forensic and investigation work and is actively involved with the university’s information security initiatives and special projects.

Kim Logan, Information Security Officer

Kim graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Centerville, Ohio school district before finding full-time employment with EDS. She began her career at EDS supporting the GMAC branches and their System 38 and AS/400 midrange computers. When the GMAC branches began decommissioning the midrange computers, Kim was fortunate to be transferred to the Security team where her career really began. Kim worked as a mainframe security administrator for 5 years with EDS and was the team lead for 3 years. She moved to Cincinnati in 1999 and joined the UC security team. As a member of UCIT OIS, Kim is responsible for Risk Management, Security Policy and Access Control. She is a member of ISSA (International Systems Security Association), ISC(2) (Information Systems Security Certification Consortium) and ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association).

Emily Morgan, Information Security Officer

Emily has been a member of the UCIT OIS team since early 2009.  She has knowledge and experience in all of the major functional areas of the department including Incident Response, Export Controls, Application Security, Risk Management, Security Awareness, Security Assessments, Security Policy and Compliance.  She is a member of OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project), ISSA (Information Systems Security Association, and HTCIA (High Technology Crime Investigation Association).  Emily has earned her Associate of ISC(2) certification, and will have the necessary experience next April to apply for her CISSP certification.  She is finishing up her degree in Information Technology with a primary emphasis in Software Development next spring, and plans to begin her MBA at UC in the fall of 2013.

Greg Seipelt, Information Security Officer

Greg Seipelt is an Information Security Officer as well as the Digital Forensic Investigator for the UCIT Office of Information Security here at UC. Greg has been an information security professional for 8+ years, some of his past responsibilities include Information Assurance Officer and Information Assurance Manager for the US Navy. Greg is currently responsible for incident response and intrusion detection as well as forensic investigation at the university.  He is a member of the following organizations:  IALEIA (International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts), HTCIA (High Technology Crime Investigation Association), InfraGard (FBI partnership with private sector), ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) and ISC2 (The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc). Greg is a self-proclaimed “life-long student”,  continuing his education and currently completing a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology here at UC. Greg's area of interests include the protection of our national critical infrastructure and the future of information warfare. His career goals focus primarily on the advancement of the Information Security Field and of Digital Forensics techniques in higher education.

Matthew Williams, Information Security Officer

Matt transitioned to UCIT OIS as an Information Security Officer after spending 14 years working elsewhere at the University with the Office of Asset Management and Printing & Duplicating Services. Matt’s responsibilities with UCIT OIS include providing UC Flex (SAP) Security Administration and Project Support as well as Special Projects.

Matt has an Associate Degree in Information Technology from the former UC College of Applied Science and is currently completing his Bachelors in Information Technology from CECH with an anticipated graduation date in 2014.  He then plans to continue with a graduate degree in business management or cyber security. He is a member of the following organizations: InfraGard (FBI partnership with private sector), ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) and ISC2 (The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc). His career goals focus primarily on advancement in the information security field in the higher education setting and include obtaining his CISM and PMP certifications.

Tyler Jones, Junior Information Security Analyst

Tyler will be starting his third year as a student enrolled in the Information Technology program at the University of Cincinnati with his primary track in networking this Fall. Tyler plans to minor in Criminal Justice and continue his learning in the information security field so that he may one day work in the computer forensics. His primary responsibilities within UCIT OIS include mainframe, maintaining the UCIT OIS website, and other duties as assigned.



Alex Smith, Junior Information Security Analyst

Alex is in his first year as a student enrolled in the IT program at the University of Cincinnati. He is focusing on a networking systems course of study. Alex plans to further his knowledge in the Cyber Security field to achieve the ability to fully secure information systems at an enterprise level or higher. His primary responsibilities within the UCIT OIS include vulnerability scanning, maintaining the Honeypot and the FTK machine, flash drive wiping, and maintaining a laptop for travel.
