Mark Faulkner, Senior Associate Vice President of Innovation and Partnerships and Interim Assistant Vice President of Information Security
Mark has served in a number of technical, management and leadership capacities in his 25+ years with the university. Past responsibilities include leadership and management of the UCIT Office of Information Security (UCIT OIS) prior to the university hiring its first Chief Information Security Officer. In his current service as Associate Vice President of Network & Telecommunication Services he is responsible for the network architecture, engineering, operations and support of the voice, video, data and wireless networks and the related infrastructure at the University of Cincinnati. This includes connectivity to OARnet (State of Ohio ISP) and Internet2 through which UC reaches other national and international research and education networks. The unit is also responsible for messaging (e-mail) and unified communication strategies, operations and support for the institution. In his capacity as Interim AVP for UCIT OIS he is responsible for all aspects of information security management, including but not limited to strategic planning and the architecture and design of information security solutions. Mark is a member of the Ohio Valley Internet2 Consortium, the chair of the Ohio Board of Regents Business and Finance subcommittee, served on the Blue Ribbon Committee for Academic Information Technologies, co-chaired the IT Governance Action Team and serves in a number of other advisory and consultative capacities to other university committees and task forces at UC and the state.
Bogdan "Bo" Vykhovanyuk, Associate Director
Bo transitioned to UCIT OIS from the UC Office of Internal Audit (IA). While a member of UC’s IA department Bo created the first UC Information Technology (IT) audit function, established a strategic IT audit mission at the university, developed a five year IT audit plan, and led a number of IT and security audits. Prior to joining UC, Bo enjoyed a career with a Big 4 public accounting firm providing IT audit, security and other consulting services to Fortune 500 companies. He led engagements that varied from audits of internal controls over financial reporting, segregation of duties, pre- and post-system implementation reviews, disaster readiness/recovery assessments, as well as the creation of a compliance department for a major domestic automobile manufacture.
Bo brings a wide range of experience to the UCIT OIS department and is responsible for day-to-day team management, cyber forensic and investigation work and is actively involved with the university’s information security initiatives and special projects.
Matthew Williams, Information Security Manager
Matt transitioned to UCIT OIS in early 2012 as an Information Security Officer after spending 14 years working with other entities of the University (Office of Asset Management and Printing & Duplicating Services).
Matt’s original responsibilities with UCIT OIS included providing UC Flex (SAP) Security Administration and Project Support as well as Special Projects.
Matt is currently responsible for leadership and management of Governance & Compliance, Education & Awareness, Information Security Risk Management & Consulting, Information Security Operations, and Disaster Recovery including all staff and students in those areas. He also provides assistance with Incident Response and Digitial Forensic Investigations.
Matt has an Associate Degree in Information Technology from the former UC College of Applied Science and will complete his Bachelors in Information Technology from CECH's School of Informaiton Technologoy in 2014. He then plans to continue with a graduate degree in business management or cyber security.
Matt is a member of the following professional organizations: InfraGard (FBI partnership with private sector), ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) and ISC2 (The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc).
His career goals focus primarily on advancement in the information security field in the higher education setting, obtaining additional professional certifications in the information security field, and becoming an adjunct facutly member here at UC.
Emily Morgan, Incident Response Team Lead
Emily has been a member of the UCIT OIS team since early 2009. She has knowledge and experience in all of the major functional areas of the department including Incident Response, Cyber Forensic Investigations, Export Controls, Application Security, Risk Management, Security Awareness, Security Assessments, and Security Policy and Compliance. Her current role is the lead incident response investigator, responsible for responding to and investigating cyber incidents. She is currently working on building a CIRT (Computer Incident Response Team), and responsible for training and managing the forensic investigator. She is in charge of the vulnerability management program for both OS and application security, as well as responsible for monitoring the SIEM for incidents. She is a member of OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project), ISSA (Information Systems Security Association, ISC(2) (Information Systems Security Certification Consortium), ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association), InfraGard (FBI partnership with private sector) and HTCIA (High Technology Crime Investigation Association). She is currently working toward her MBA with a concentration in international business from the Lindner College of Business.
Alex Smith, Information Security Officer and Digital Forensic Investigator
Alex began working at the UCIT Office of Information Security in February 2013 as a student worker. He has been in his current position as a full time employee since December 2013. His current responsibilities include conducting digital forensic investigations, enterprise vulnerability management, and incident response. In 2015 Alex will graduate from UC with Bachelor’s degree in IT Networking. After graduation he intends to pursue an MBA from UC and has interests in teaching as an adjunct professor for the IT program in CECH. Alex’s current positions at the University of Cincinnati include Treasurer of Cyber Crime Cats (UC student organization), and captain of the UC Club Swimming team. He is also a member of HTCIA (Higher Technology Crime Investigation Associate) and a member of Infragard (FBI partnership with the private sector). He plans to obtain a few more certifications in the next couple of years to include but not limited to: ISC2 CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), and ISACA CISM (Certified Information Security Manager).
Kim Logan, Information Security Officer
Kim graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Centerville, Ohio school district before finding full-time employment with EDS. She began her career at EDS supporting the GMAC branches and their System 38 and AS/400 midrange computers. When the GMAC branches began decommissioning the midrange computers, Kim was fortunate to be transferred to the Security team. Kim worked as a mainframe security administrator for 5 years with EDS and was the team lead for 3 years. She moved to Cincinnati in 1999 and joined the UC security team. As a member of UCIT OIS, Kim is responsible for Governance and Compliance with a focus on HIPAA security and risk assessment. She also has knowledge and experience with Risk Management, Security Policy and Application Security. She is a member of ISSA (International Systems Security Association), ISC(2) (Information Systems Security Certification Consortium) and ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association).
Kevin Shaffer, Information Security Officer
Kevin transitioned to UCIT OIS from UCIT Network and Telecommunications Services (NTS). During his 20+ years with UCIT NTS Kevin held various positions with a wide variety of responsibilities including Documentation Specialist, CAD Specialist, and NTS Purchasing & Inventory Management. Kevin is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati's College of Education, Criminal Justice, & Human Services holding a BS in Paralegal Studies with a minor in IT. His primary responsibility within UCIT OIS is Policy Development and Regulatory Compliance. Kevin also serves on ACUTA's Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee, monitoring and advising on regulatory and legislative developments affecting UCIT OIS.
Tyler Jones, Junior Information Security Analyst
Tyler has been a student worker at UCIT OIS since October 2012.
Tyler plans to continue working in Cyber Security and expand his knowledge in all areas of IT. He would like to work in IT Management eventually, with a focus in Cyber Security. His primary responsibilities within the UCIT OIS include: handling InCommon server certificate requests, Mainframe Violation Reporting, maintaining the UCIT OIS website, assisting in the Risk Acceptance process, handling Export Control forms, assisting with the departmental Twitter page, overseeing and/or participating in campus shred events, and researching security related topics.
Tyler is a member of Cyber Crime Cats (a UC student organization) and HTCIA (High Technology Crime Investigation Association).
Tyler is in his third-year as a student enrolled in the IT program with a primary focus on Networking at the University of Cincinnati. He is on track to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree.
Lendsey Smith, Junior Information Security Analyst
Lendsey has been a student worker at UCIT OIS since October 2013.
Lendsey has a recent interest in IT and is expanding her knowledge. Her primary responsibilities within the UCIT OIS include: developing and editing business documents, assisting Information Security Officers with enforcement of policies and access control maintenance, researching and developing techniques, procedures, training and presentations on topics related to information security and information assurance.
Lendsey is in her junior year as a psychology student. She is on track to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts and plans to attend graduate school for Clinical Psychology.
