Resident Alien with NO Tax Treaty Benefit


Your Tax Status is If you
Category III
Resident Alien with No Tax Treaty Benefit
  • Have been in the US as an F-1, or J-1 Student in more than 5 calendar years (you arrived anytime in the year 2007, or earlier).
  • Have been in the US as a J-1 non-student (Research Scholar/Professor) in more than 2 calendar years (you arrived anytime in the year 2010, or earlier).
  • Have been in H-1B status for 183 days or more during 2012.
  • Obtained Permanent Residency status (Green Card) at anytime in 2012 or earlier.
  • Obtained US Citizenship at anytime in 2012 or earlier.

Resident Aliens with income less than $49,000.00 for 2012 can obtain assistance with their Federal and State Income Tax Returns at the College of Law in the following rooms at the following dates and times:


February 20 – April 13
Mondays 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Room 118
Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Room 118
No Assistance available during Spring Break (March 18-22)


Please Note:

I.  There is class until 6:30 p.m. in that room, so please wait until the class leaves to enter the room.

II.  These volunteers cannot help you with Glacier TP Questions

III.  For anyone who has earned more than $50,000.00 in 2012 you are eligible to use any number of software products that are available in the US market such as Turbo Tax, Tax Act etc. These normally cost between $20-$40 each. “Free File” is available to anyone who earned less than $57,000.00 in 2012 at www.irs.gov

IV. Don't forget to do a State Tax Return.
