UC Faculty & Staff… Going Global

Faculty Spotlight

When Tina Weitkamp began her teaching career at UC CON, her specialty was maternity nursing.  In 1990 she participated in a mission trip to Brazil, and developed an interest in international nursing.  Since that time she has worked in Bangladesh, Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia, Peru, Russia and Tanzania.  In 2002 she began taking students on international clinical experiences.  Since that time over 30 clinical groups of nursing students have worked in Honduras, Tanzania, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.  Student experiences have included interdisciplinary field clinics, public health education and participating in a local nursing conference for the national nurses.

UC International Workshop Series

UC International Workshop Series are for faculty currently leading or interested in leading student abroad.  Workshops cover a variety of subjects on how to prepare yourself, as an employee of UC, to travel internationally with students and best practices both in the planning stages and while abroad. Topics will include leader roles and responsibilities, safety, risk prevention, liability and limitations, insurance for you and students, health issues and preparation, student conduct, pre-departure orientations, crisis management, etc. UC International recommends that you participate in some combination of our workshop series at least once a year as we are always updated our best practices and integrating new information.
