Welcome
The Language Lab has become the Language Resource Center. It has moved to room 612 of the Old Chemistry
Building on the main campus. The
Manager of
the facility is Emmanuel Wilson.
For students, we have 30 computers with internet access and 3 plasma
screen TV's with access to international channels via Dish Network.
Since the computers have a DVD/CDRW drive, it is possible to view DVDs
on the computers. However, we do require that computer users provide
their own walkman style headphones to listen to any audio, whether from
DVD, the Web, CD-ROMs or audio CDs. We also have a computer classroom in
727 Old Chem with another 27 workstations, also with DVD/CDRW drives.
Students may use those computers when a class is not in session.
We still offer audio cassettes or audio CD's (in 18 languages) that correspond to language textbooks. The cassettes
or CD's are
available for individual listening practice on request at the check-out counter.
There are video
cassettes and DVD's for viewing in the Lab. The videos are in only a few languages, and they are not duplicated for
home use. The services to be described under Policies and
Procedures include high speed audio cassette
duplication; video duplication or video format transfer at real-time
speed; and CD copying.
