Placement Testing

About the Placement Test

Students are typically placed into language courses depending upon their years of study in high
school or prior level of completion in college.  However, students who have extensive prior study
in Spanish, French or German may apply for a waiver of the College language requirement with
a minimum score of 500 on the Foreign Language Placement Test (FLPT).  The FLPT is also
used in certain individual cases as an additional placement tool by the Language Coordinator.

Whether or not a student wants to waive out of the language requirement, a student needs to take the test in the Language Resource Center by appointment, bringing a UC I.D. and money for a print-out (if student has no funds on the UC I.D). Then the student must present the results to a major advisor or A&S advisor.

For more information about the A&S Language Requirement, go to the following document: http://www.artsci.uc.edu/undergrad/advising/docs/foreign_language_requirement.pdf

You should be using Internet Explorer or Mozilla or Firefox as your browser.
(That's so you can print the results at the end. Netscape 7.0 or above would work too.)

Select your language, fill out the form.
(We recommend that you put in your e-mail address in the appropriate blank.)

Take the test. (It takes most people about half an hour, but your time could vary a bit either more or less.)

When the test ends, we recommend that you print out the results page for your own records. (Sometimes colleges and departments lose your scores, so you can save yourself trouble by having the paper copy of your test.)

The website for the foreign languages placement test is http://webcape.byuhtrsc.org?acct=uc

You should be able to return to the test site and get your score again by putting in your information again and clicking on the RESUME button.
