Cincinnati Pride Grant


Students that are awarded the Cincinnati Pride Grant (CPG) are required to actively participant in at least one group mentoring session with Academic Excellence & Support Services (AESS) per quarter.  At the beginning of each term a list of dates will be electronically posted outlining the group meeting dates for that term.  It is the responsibility of each CPG awarded student to select a date, and attend one group meeting per quarter.  During each meeting, students will be provided vital information related to their responsibilities as a CPG recipient as well as other program requirements.

WHAT IS THE CINCINNATI PRIDE GRANT (CPG)?

The Cincinnati Pride Grant, in combination with federal, state and institutional aid, equals the full cost of tuition and a book allowance for those graduates of Cincinnati Public Schools who might not otherwise be able to afford a college education. The grant recognizes UC’s longstanding
partnership with the Cincinnati Public School System and reaffirms its commitment to CPS’s students.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

All graduates of Cincinnati Public Schools who have not attended another post-secondary institution may apply for the Pride Grant, with priority given to those students with the greatest financial need, such as those who will qualify for the Federal Pell Grant.

HOW DO STUDENTS APPLY FOR CPG?

Students will need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be admitted to the University of Cincinnati.  Interested students should immediately phone our Scholarship and New Student Financial Aid Center at 513-556-2420 to learn about next steps.

FAQs RELATED TO CPG AESS REQUIREMENTS

WHAT IS THE PEER MENTORING PROGRAM?

The Peer Mentor Program is designed to foster a safe supportive network for undergraduate students that need additional direction and enhanced skill sets necessary for navigating a collegiate environment.  Peer mentors serve as support personnel and share in the process of  manifesting the mission and goals of Academic Excellence & Support Services (AESS) by promoting academic excellence and student retention.

WHY DO I HAVE TO ATTEND GROUP MEETINGS?

Each CPG recipient is required to attend at least one group meeting per quarter to meet their Student Support requirement.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS A SCHEDULE CONFLICT WITH THE GROUP MEETING DATES & TIMES?

If there is a legitimate conflict with all of the group meeting dates, students will the option to schedule an individual meeting with a peer mentor.  However, please note peer mentors DO NOT meet with students during the last week of classes nor during the week of final exams.

WILL I HAVE TO ATTEND ANY WORKSHOPS?

Beginning the Winter quarter of 07 students were no longer required to attend workshops.  Each student is required to attend one group meeting per quarter.

HOW DO I RENEW MY CPG CONTRACT?

You will receive information from the Program Manager in the Student Financial Aid Office regarding contract renewals.  All contracts are processed via the Student Financial Aid Office.
