Smarthinking Online Tutoring
Smarthinking is an online tutoring service that the University of Cincinnati, Learning Assistance Center (LAC) is making available to all of its undergraduate students. Smarthinking provides tutoring in mathematics (basic math through Calculus, including Bilingual Math), Biology, Intro Human A & P, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Accounting, Intro to Finance, Statistics, Spanish, and Writing. Smarthinking Online Tutoring is available 24 hours a day, 7 days each week. Click here for a complete description of subjects offered and times when service is available.
SMARTHINKING Online Tutoring will be available beginning Monday, September 24, 2007. All students that wish to use SMARTHINKING must complete a tutee application for the 2007-2008 academic year. As a way to track our usage, please keep your UC-bol account as the primary email address. *If you already have an account but this is your first time logging on this quarter, you will need to update your account. Please complete a Tutee Application for this academic year, and be sure to check "yes" to the Smarthinking Online Tutoring question on the first page. These can be emailed to lac@uc.edu or faxed to 556-3728. Please allow 24 hours to create your account.
Students can receive 10 hours of online tutoring each academic year. The Learning Assistance Center WILL NOT be able to increase the amount of hours you receive for SMARTHINKING Online Tutoring after you have reached this limit for the academic year.
Minute Meter (Look under "My Account" after logging in)
Time is deducted according to the following:
- Live drop-in sessions: "Metered" to the minute of time spent working with an e-structor plus 5 minutes for administration
- Submitted questions: 20 minutes
- Submitted essays or career writing: 35 minutes
- Pre-scheduled sessions: 35 minutes (30 minutes spent working with an e-structor plus 5 minutes for administration)

Getting Started
If this is your first time using SMARTHINKING, come to the Learning Assistance Center to complete a tutee application. Upon entering you into our database, we will send an email to your UC BOL account with the web address, your username and password. If you already have a SMARTHINKING account, you can sign-in below. Please note: if you miss one scheduled appointment with a SMARTHINKING Online Tutor, your account access will be suspended for the year. *If you already have an account but this is your first time logging on this quarter, you will need to update your account. Please stop by the LAC and complete a tutee application for this academic year.

Troubleshooting Tips
- Make sure that your browser is set up to allow cookies and pop-up windows. SMARTHINKING uses both of these.
- Make sure that you have Java installed. If you need to install Java, go to http://www.java.com, and follow the instructions for the free download.
- Make sure that you have Flash version 7.0.19+of for Windows or 7.0.24+ for Mac OS X installed. If you need to install Flash, go to http://www.macromedia.com, and follow the instructions for the free download.
