MWC Members Receive NIEHS Recognition Several members of the Midwest Consortium have been recognized by NIEHS for their contributions to providing safety and health training to disaster responders by creating training modules on topics related to Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). World Trade Center to Hurricane Katrina commemorative coins were distributed to the following Midwest Consortium members: Carol Rice – Carol is a professor at the University of Cincinnati in the Department of Environmental Health. She has been the Director of the Midwest Consortium since 1987. LaVerne Mayfield – LaVerne is currently the Director of Community Outreach at ICWUC in Cincinnati. LaVerne was previously the Program Director at GCOHC in Cincinnati. LaVerne hosted the Hazard Recognition of Chemical, Biological and Radiological Hazards pilot program at GCOHC. George Smelcer – George is Occupational Safety and Health Program Manager at the University of Tennessee. He has been the Program Director at the University of Tennessee for several years. George developed the Crime Scene Integrity Module and hosted the pilot program for that module. Charles Najdek – Charles has been the Program Director at the University of Louisville for 15 years. He is a hands-on director, doing quite a bit of the training at the Center. He developed the Hazard Recognition of Chemical, Biological and Radiological Hazards module. Ed Leier – Ed is the Fire Chief in the city of Vadnais Heights. He has been a member of the Advisory Board for several years. He reviewed the Crime Scene Integrity module. Henry Anderson, M.D. – Dr. Anderson is Chief Medical Officer for the Wisconsin Division of Publish Health. Dr. Anderson has been Chair of the Advisory Board since 1987 and was a major supporter of our development of the WMD curricula. Scott Tobey – Scott is a professor School of Criminal Justice and the Director of Emergency Response Solutions at Michigan State University and the program director for the Midwest Consortium Training Center at MSU. He hosted the Pilot Program for the Unified Command System module. Phil Berger – Phil is a professor emeritus at the University of Kentucky in the Martin School of Public Policy. He has been instrumental in developing evaluation tools for the MWC. He developed the Stress Management module and evaluation tools for all of the programs. Eula Bingham – Dr. Bingham is a professor emeritus at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Bingham was the University of Cincinnati's Vice President and University Dean for Graduate Studies and Research from 1982-1990. She was Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health from 1977-1981. She reviewed the WMD Chemical, Biological and Radiological Hazards module. John Reardon – John is a firefighter who developed the Unified Command System module and helped lead the Pilot Program at MSU. John Alden – John is the HAZWOPER Program Coordinator at Environmental Management Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. John helped develop the Crime Scene Integrity Module. |
