2006 Faculty Awards: Suidan Earns Research Title
The internationally acclaimed research of Makram Suidan focuses on breakthroughs in cleaning up hazardous waste and assuring safe drinking water.
With over 240 peer-reviewed publications to his credit, Dr. Suidans work has made an exceptional impact through lower-cost and more effective water quality and toxic waste treatments. Since his arrival at the College of Engineering in 1990, Suidans research awards have totaled more than $30 million.
In 2003, he received the universitys doctoral mentoring award, awarded each year at doctoral hooding.
Most recently, Professor Suidans laboratory received funding from the U.S. EPA as the leader of an interdisciplinary team that developed a treatment system to successfully remove from groundwater at a site in New England a gasoline additive that is a suspected carcinogen.

Sai Bonthu, a doctoral candidate of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Cincinnati, is working to develop a product that has the potential to accurately reduce traffic accidents. Currently, he is working on a grant with the Ohio Department of Transportation and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
UC engineering co-op medalist excels through 6 co-op experiences

Ever since she garnered an appreciation for chemistry in high school, fifth-year University of Cincinnati student Jaclyn Bashore has not looked back. When she graduates with a chemical engineering degree and a minor in chemistry this spring, Bashore will have had six co-op experiences — along with a new full-time job at AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical research company with whom she did two co-op rotations. To commemorate her exceptional co-op work, the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science awarded Bashore the 2024 Herman Schneider Medal, an annual award given to a graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding success as a co-op student.

The University of Cincinnati has a longstanding presence in the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) competition. For several decades, UC students have built Formula and BAJA style cars to race and compete against schools nationwide at various competitions. However, with the emergence and growth in popularity of electric cars, one student set out to make UC's very first electric vehicle team. Bearcat Electric Vehicle (BEV) was founded by UC alumnus Sagar Tawari, during his time as a student. In the 2019-2020 academic year, Tiwari recruited members and created the university's first all-electric formula racing team.
