UC Honors the Nation s Veterans
The University of Cincinnati will hold its annual ceremony to honor the nations veterans at
10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 9, on McMicken Commons
. The inclement weather location will be in the Great Hall of Tangeman University Center.
The ceremony will remember U.S. veterans who served in all wars and will honor an individual veteran symbolizing veterans still surviving from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom.
Up to 100 cadets representing the UC Army and Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) will take part in this special tribute, which is open to the UC community as well as the Cincinnati USA community. UCs Army and Air Force ROTC units are extending invitations to local veterans organizations. Invitations are also being sent out to UC faculty and staff who have served in times of peace and war, but all faculty, staff and students are encouraged and welcome to attend.
The ceremony will be led by UC President Nancy L. Zimpher and will feature guest speaker and UC alumnus Major General Dennis E. Lutz. Lutz graduated from UC in 1973 with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He also holds a masters degree in business administration from Xavier University and a masters degree in electrical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The ceremony will highlight military marches presented by the UC Bearcat Band, a presentation of the colors by UC Army and Air Force ROTC cadets and a rendition of Taps, featuring buglers stationed in the towers of TUC and McMicken Hall. A reception for the veterans will follow the ceremony in the Great Hall.
The university will be closed on Nov. 12 to mark the Veterans Day holiday, which is on Sunday, Nov. 11.
