CCM Announces 2009-10 Studio Series of Drama, Musical Theatre and Opera
The quality and production values of its shows makes it easy to forget sometimes that CCM is an educational institution.
The 2009–10 Studio Series of drama, musical theatre and opera productions brings the immersive training to light. In the small, intimate and versatile block box, the Cohen Family Studio Theater, the audience is close enough to see the students sweat, grimace, concentrate and bare their souls. Student designers help create the costumes and sets. Student make-up specialists have designed the hair and make-up and wigs if needed, to help bring each character to life. They create elaborate lighting designs and magical soundscapes. CCM students learn by doing.
“Students work just as hard producing the CCM Studio Series as they do Mainstage productions. They still have to memorize their lines, go to rehearsal and get into character,” Richard Hess, chair of the drama department offers as he shares his enthusiasm of what is in store for the upcoming school year.
The 2009–2010 Season Studio Season includes one dramatic work, one student produced festival of work, four operas and three musicals. Included in the season is TRANSMIGRATION, a festival of student-created new works, which returns for it’s second year. In one weekend, 58 actors will perform nine different shows in three different performance venues in the CCM complex. Musicals Redux also returns to present forgotten musicals in a new and inventive way.
