Nobel Winner Kydland to Deliver Oct. 22 Kautz Lecture at UC

UC ingot   The Kautz Speakers series from UC's Department of Economics will mark a first this fall when, on Oct. 22, a Nobel laureate will be presenting the annual lecture.

Finn Erling Kydland, the 2004 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics, will present the 2009 James C. Kautz Lecture in Political Economy. He will be addressing "Reflecting on Current Economic Conditions" in Zimmer Auditorium from 5:30-6:50 p.m. on Oct. 22. Admission to the talk is free and open to the public.

Kydland was honored by the Nobel committee for his work with Arizona State University's Edward Prescott on the relationship between business cycles and macroeconomic policy – specifically, the driving forces behind business cycles and the time inconsistency of economic policy. Kydland's most recent research has explored the role of monetary policy in the aggregate economy, domestically as well as internationally.

Kydland is the Jeffrey Henley Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also serves as a research associate for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and is a senior research fellow at the IC 2 Institute at the University of Texas at Austin.
