The ceremony is open to the UC community and the public and will honor service members past and present. UC’s new president – Gregory H. Williams, who takes office on Nov. 1 – is scheduled to emcee the Nov. 12 ceremony.
The ceremony will feature the color guard and cadets representing UC’s Army and Air Force Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), as well as military marches by the UC Bearcat Band. As part of its UC tradition, the ceremony will close with a presentation of the colors and “Taps,” played by buglers stationed on the towers of TUC and McMicken Hall.
The guest speaker for the ceremony is Major General John W. Peabody, commander and division engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, located in Cincinnati. Peabody directs all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water resources development in the Great Lakes and Ohio River basins, an area of more than 335,000 square miles including all or parts of 17 states.
Peabody’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with “V” device, Purple Heart, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, the Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Unit Commendation Award, the Army Superior Unit Award, Master Parachutist Badge and Ranger Tab.
