UC ingot   CCM, the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, has provided excellence in training musicians and performing artists for more than 130 years. The school is known as one of the world’s leading conservatories for performing and media arts.

It is always cause for celebration when guest artists perform at CCM. World-renowned baritone Nathan Gunn and his wife, pianist Julie Gunn, have been together on and off the stage for over 15 years. On October 6 at 8 p.m., they will bring that star power to Corbett Auditorium, performing a diverse selection of repertoire, including classic works by Franz Schubert and Charles Ives, contemporary works by rising-star composer Benjamin Moore and eclectic singer/songwriter Tom Waits, as well as arrangements of traditional American songs by Julie Gunn.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, CCM Philharmonia (Mark Gibson, music director and conductor) presents a night of Beethoven on Wednesday, October 7, at 8 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium. CCM Philharmonia welcomes the Polygon Trio for this special, one-night-only event.

This year CCM celebrates the 40th anniversary of its musical theatre program with the American rock musical, Hair, (Aubrey Berg, director; Steve Goers, musical director; Diane Lala, choreographer). A special opening night performance is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, and the show runs through Saturday, November 21. It is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. Hippies and flower children stage a pacifist rebellion against the Vietnam War and the constraints of the Establishment. Premiered in 1968 – the same year the CCM musical theatre program was established – Hair is currently enjoying a wildly successful Broadway revival.

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn’s birth and Haydn’s death, the 250th year of Handel’s death, and the 350th year since Henry Purcell’s birth, the Chamber Choir and CCM Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra (Earl Rivers, conductor) present a Composer Anniversary Concert on Sunday, November 22, at 3 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park. This program showcases virtuosic solo, choral and orchestral music.

Celebrating 70 years of Big Band, the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band (Rick VanMatre and Paul Piller, conductors) present historic favorites from the 1940s on Sunday, February 7 at 4 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium. Enjoy the Swing Era sounds of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Woody Herman, then leap forward to 2010 with compositions and arrangements by today’s hottest composers and arrangers.

“One cannot fully appreciate CCM without acknowledging our rich heritage of accomplishment,” said Dean Douglas Knehans. “Part of our students’ immersive education is to perform before audiences. We look forward to seeing you often this coming season of celebration at CCM.”
