Hair, the musical that will bring the essence of turbulent 1960s hippie counter-culture back to life, opens Sunday, Nov. 15, at CCM. With an electrifying and Grammy Award-winning score that includes “Aquarius” and “Let the Sun Shine In,” Hair offers a unique theatrical experience.

This self-proclaimed “tribal love musical,” which also premiered in 1968, the same year that the CCM musical theatre program was established, takes place in Greenwich Village during the Vietnam War. Join the Tribe, a group of long-haired, politically active hippies, as they gather to usher in the dawning of a new age in America.

Performances will be offered in Corbett Auditorium. Show times are as follows:

Sunday, Nov. 15, 2:30 p.m. & 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 8 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 19, 8 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 20, 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 21, 2:30 p.m. & 8 p.m.

In addition to the above performance schedule, the Friends of CCM will host The Hair Do, an opening night gala performance on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $125 for the gala event and include a 6 p.m. reception, opening night performance and the 60s-themed gala in the Great Hall at UC’s Tangeman University Center. Call 513-556-2100 for gala tickets and information.

A number of free, open to the public special events round out this anniversary celebration, including a master class conducted by Tony Award-winning Broadway producer and CCM alumnus Kevin McCollum (Rent, Avenue Q, In the Heights) at 11 a.m. on Nov. 21 in the Cohen Family Studio Theater. Seating for this event is available on a first come, first serve basis.

The celebration culminates with the 40th Anniversary Gala Musical Theatre Cabaret on Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. in Patricia Corbett Theater. The Gala Cabaret will feature graduates from the last two decades of of the CCM Musical Theatre Program. This is a free event, but reservations are required. Tickets available beginning Monday, Nov. 16 at 12 noon. Please contact the CCM Box Office at 513-556-4183 to reserve. Limit two tickets per order.

CCM celebrates the 40th anniversary of its musical theatre program with the "American Tribal Love/Rock Musical," Hair. Amid the counter-culture revolution of the Age of Aquarius, a tribe of hippies and flower children stage a pacifist rebellion against the Vietnam War and the constraints of the Establishment. They are forced to examine their own beliefs and dreams in this provocative, groundbreaking and profoundly moving musical celebration. Premiered in 1968 - the same year the CCM musical theatre program was established - Hair is currently enjoying a wildly successful Broadway revival.
