UC ingot   Food, film and plenty of information-sharing will be brought into focus from Nov. 10-20, when UC celebrates International Education Week.

The keynote event for the celebration comes Nov. 17, when Jean-Robert Cadet, the author of “Restavec: Haitian Slave Child to Middle-Class American,” will be speaking at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of Tangeman University Center. Cadet is a UC graduate who grew up in servitude in Haiti. Still today, there are an estimated 300,000 children in “restavec” arrangements in Haiti. In addition to his book, Cadet has established the Restavec Foundation to work towards the end of childhood slavery in Haiti.

Other highlights include:
  • International films being screened throughout the week in the MainStreet Cinema

  • A pair of international cooking demonstration programs in the StadiumView@CenterCourt facility

  • Internationally themed meals from Nov. 16-20 in both the CenterCourt dining facility and Mick & Mack’s Contemporary Cafe

  • An opportunity to have a free passport photo taken on Nov. 19 at the UC International offices

  • A closing Friday night celebration of “A Taste of the World,” including free food and entertainment, in the Tangeman University Center Food Court on Nov. 20.
Events celebrating International Education Week are also scheduled for the UC Clermont and Raymond Walters College communities.
