Longtime Cincinnati Physician and Endoscopic Surgeon Anant R. Bhati to Receive Honorary Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati

The medical field leader and mentor to UC medical students will be honored at UC’s Commencement Ceremony on Dec. 11.

UC ingot   Local and state medical leader Anant Ram Bhati, MD, will be presented with an Honorary Doctor of Science at the University of Cincinnati Commencement Ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, in Fifth Third Arena. The honorary degree represents the highest award from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Bhati is the director of the Division of Gynecology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati and is an endoscopic gynecological surgeon.  For more than 40 years, he has instructed and supervised medical students and residents at Good Samaritan Hospital as well as medical students at the UC College of Medicine, serving as a faculty volunteer professor.

Bhati has traveled around the world at his own expense, teaching his innovative techniques to doctors serving impoverished communities.

Dr. Bhati served on UC’s Board of Trustees from 2000-09. He was a member of the State Medical Board of Ohio from 1995-2005 and served as the board’s president in 2001.  Bhati is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. 

Born in Jodhpur Rajasthan, India, Dr. Bhati earned his medical degree from SMS Medical College, Jaipur, India. He gained U.S. citizenship in 1981.

Bhati has also served on the boards of Heritage Savings Bank, the Ohio Medical Aetna Medical Advisory Board, the Provident Bank Advisory Board, Hindu Society of Greater Cincinnati, Salvation Army Advisory Board, and Regional Board of the ProAssurance Company.
