St. Bernard Star Signs with UC Clermont

The UC Clermont volleyball team secured Katie Sipe, a 5’8” outside hitter from St. Bernard/Elmwood Place High School, who agreed to join the Cougars for the upcoming 2011 campaign. Sipe joins 6’1” redshirt freshman Rachel Mullins as new additions to the team.

Sipe joins the Cougars after a successful four-year career for Coach Denise Haarman’s St. Bernard/Elmwood Place varsity squad. During her sophomore and junior seasons, Sipe earned Honorable Mention All-Conference status in the Miami Valley Conference. She was also chosen for the Southwestern Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association (SWOVBCA) District 16 Senior Showcase all-star game in November, 2010.

“Katie has a good understanding of the game and demonstrated an ability to raise her play to the level of her competition during the Senior Showcase,” said UC Clermont College Head Coach Joe Harpring. “That showed me she could be quite an asset for our team. She also comes from a very talented volleyball family (Sipe’s mother Elaine was also a high school volleyball player), so the sport is definitely in her blood. I’m very pleased to have her in our program,” said Harpring.
