The UC Team Members Heading for the Himalaya this September


The UC team members heading to the Himalaya in September represent the disciplines of design, engineering and geology. They will test prototype designs to improve the lives of researchers in the field.

  • Brian Davies, associate professor in UC’s School of Architecture and Interior Design
  • Alex Corbin, a recent graduate from UC’s baccalaureate architecture program
  • Jon Lowry, a recent graduate from UC’s master’s program in design


Representing UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) and charged with the task of adapting materials to improve living and working in extreme environments are
  • Jainagesh Sekhar, UC professor of engineering (Sekhar will not actually accompany the group to the Himalayas.)
  • Patrick Myers, UC graduate student in engineering (Myers will not actually accompany the group to the Himalayas.)
  • Santeri Potticary, UC undergraduate student in engineering


Representing UC’s McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) and serving as the target user group for the new prototype designs are
  • Lewis Owen, professor and head of UC’s geology department
  • Craig Dietsch, UC associate professor of geology
  • Kate Hedrick, UC doctoral student in geology
  • Joshua Brafford, UC undergraduate in geology
  • Brooke Crowley, UC assistant professor in geology
  • Gianna Evans, UC master’s student in geology
  • Todd Longbottom, UC master’s student in geology
  • Gary Motz, UC doctoral student in geology
  • John Nealon, UC doctoral student in geology
  • Natashia Pierce, UC undergraduate in geology
  • Rebecca Potter, UC undergraduate in geology
  • Christine Rahtz, UC undergraduate in geology
  • Julia Wise, UC master’s student in geology
