Six years ago I started a new career with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). As I began to plan our intern program, I thought of Lisa Newman almost immediately.
Lisa was beginning her career at the University of Cincinnati when my wife, Chris, and I were finishing up our degrees in communication. Our reconnection with Lisa has provided great benefits for all involved. I have had the pleasure of hiring another communication graduate at LLS and continue to find great interns because of Lisa. After years of happily supporting the UC athletic programs, Chris and I are now involved with the educational programs of the university in many ways, including board participation for each of us.

We created the Lisa Newman Scholarship as a way to give back to the university and a professor who touched our lives while we were in school and still has an impact on us today. Chris and I know Lisa is very passionate about the success of her students. That is why we thought the suggestion to name our scholarship after Lisa was such a great idea. It is our hope that the scholarship creates awareness for alumni to give back to the Department of Communication. We want everyone to know that every contribution makes an impact for future communication students.
Chris and I are proud to be graduates of the University of Cincinnati. Our communication degrees have enabled us to do very well in our careers. Much of that success is because of our relationship with Lisa. We hope others will join us in helping future communication majors with this scholarship.
