UC to Award Honorary Degrees to Influential Leaders
The Honorary Doctoral Degree is the highest award to be bestowed by the University of Cincinnati. The honor recognizes extraordinary distinction and serves to exemplify the highest purposes and ideals of the university in its recipients.
Four people will receive honorary doctorates at the
April 27 University of Cincinnati Commencement Ceremonies in Fifth Third Arena:
, chairman of the Castellini Group of Companies and CEO and principal owner of the Cincinnati Reds, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science during the 2 p.m. ceremony.
a legendary pianist and conductor, will be awarded (in absentia) an Honorary Doctor of Music during the 9 a.m. ceremony.
, a space pioneer, distinguished war hero and retired U.S. Senator, will receive (in absentia) an Honorary Doctor of Engineering during the 9 a.m. ceremony.
, a Cincinnati business leader and philanthropist, is also Commencement speaker. Heimann will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the 2 p.m. ceremony.

From an early age, he had a lifelong fascination with aviation. As an adult, he transformed this fascination into a career, pursuing a doctoral degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati's historic program. Here, he has succeeded in research, instruction, and was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
