'Polymorphic Conveyances' Featured in Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont

"Polymorphic Conveyances" by John R.G. Roth will be featured in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont College from Feb. 3-24.  The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Artist and sculptor John R.G. Roth hails from Norfolk, Va., and is an associate professor of art at Old Dominion University.  Roth’s unique creations can be best summarized by the title of an article written about his works, “Steampunk of the Sea and Furniture for the Fanciful,” by Mark Jenkins and featured in The Washington Post, Feb. 8, 2013. These sculpture/furniture hybrids were adapted into a series Roth calls “Speculative Naval Architecture.”

The artist states, “Absurd ship models sometimes reflect my visceral response to the anthropomorphic aspects of machinery, vehicles and buildings and sometimes serve as metaphors for my reflections upon conveyance and modes of communication.” Set within Roth’s expertly and beautifully crafted furniture pieces these “absurd ship models” create quite a delicacy for the viewer’s eyes while additional works, set autonomously among pedestals, beg the viewer’s imagination to envision the next scene for each piece, whether it be on land or sea.
