UC Blue Ash Dash 5K Raises Over $40K for Scholarships

Current and future students at UC Blue Ash College will benefit from the $44,400 dollars raised during the second annual UC Blue Ash Dash 5K for Scholarships.

A total of 634 people registered for the event, which was held Oct. 11. Some of those who signed up chose to "sleep in" for scholarships, but most were on hand to enjoy the cool, crisp and sunny morning as they walked or ran the course that started and finished on the UC Blue Ash campus.

All proceeds from the event go into a scholarship fund to support deserving UC Blue Ash students. Combined with last year’s inaugural 5K Dash, the college has now raised more than $70,000 for student scholarships.

“Supporting a person’s education is such an important and worthwhile cause,” said Cady Short-Thompson, dean of UC Blue Ash. “We are very grateful to all of our sponsors, participants and volunteers who are helping our students pursue their dreams by making our second UC Blue Ash Dash even bigger and better.”

The overall winner of the event was Andy Loufman of Bay Village, Ohio, with a time of 17:30. In the women’s division, Megan Miller of Mason came in first with a time of 22:08. In the walker’s category, Pat Darling of Sharonville won the women’s division with a time of 35:29, while Walt Darling of Cincinnati won the men’s division with a time of 39:49. In the Corporate Challenge, APTech Group won for the Largest Team and Horan took honors for the Fastest Team.

The City of Blue Ash and the Blue Ash Police Department were a tremendous help once again in arranging for Plainfield Road to be closed for a period of time to allow for the 5K. The course traveled along the Blue Ash Golf Course on Plainfield before turning around and heading back toward the UC Blue Ash campus.

The Premier Sponsor of the UC Blue Ash 5K Dash for Scholarships was Ohio National Financial Services. Other sponsors include: AP Tech, Camargo Pharmaceuticals, Fleet Feet, Flynn & Company, Gold Medal Products Co., Horan, Infintech, Mercy Health, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Modern Office Methods, ProSource, Sam’s Club, Sunny Delight, The Business Backer, Wornick Foods, and Wright Brothers.

UC Blue Ash College is a regional college within the University of Cincinnati.
