UC Co-Op Student s Futuristic Racecar Among Volkswagen Design Contest Winners

Cameron Bresn’s video game vehicle design will take the University of Cincinnati co-op student to the next level: an internship at the Volkswagen Design Center in Germany.

Bresn, an Industrial Design student in the

College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning

, was selected as one of three winners in the 2014

Volkswagen Design Contest

.

Bresn and the other two winners are invited to attend a six-month internship at the center in Wolfsburg, Germany. The internship offers the winners the chance to experience and participate in the daily operation of the global company and to work on ongoing production projects.

The contest brief required participants to design an innovative concept vehicle and scenario for a video game. Bresn’s submission was inspired by the design aesthetics and visual languages of architect Zaha Hadid and fashion designer Dion Lee.

The most exciting part of the project for Bresn was being able to see all of the pieces come together for the final presentation. “Individually each part was fun to do,” he said, “but seeing the entire body of work after the full semester was very gratifying.”

Bresn is excited for his internship at Volkswagen’s Design Center. “I am hoping that this opportunity will make me a more holistic designer and allow me to improve my hard skills like sketching while also giving me a more refined sensibility to design and aesthetics as a whole,” stated Bresn.

Bresn recommends the UC

Cooperative Education Program

to prospective students as a great way to get invaluable experiential learning. “The Co-op program provides drastically needed experience and education within the design field that just isn't possible to get within the classroom. I already feel more prepared going into the job market after experiencing only two co-ops.”
