tips 'n tricks

#3: Improve the Way Your Video Looks

Step 1: Position your webcam at or near eye level (so it isn’t looking up your nose or down at the top of your head).  Raise or lower your monitor or chair, if needed.

Step 2: Adjust your webcam so that you are horizontally centered and so that there is a little bit of space between the top of your head and the top of the screen (but not too much - we don’t need to see your ceiling).

Step 3: Take measures to ensure the video is well lit (keep office lights on, turn on a desk lamp, and never ever record with a window in the background).

Now your video should be looking great! To view more tips on Kaltura Webcam Aesthetics, visit the UC Knowledge Base (KB).

new resources, expertise join canopy

The Office of Distance Learning and Continuing Education Programs, Communiversity and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) are now among the resources housed in Canopy, UC’s innovative, collaborative and student-centered eLearning ecosystem.

As part of this strategic transformation, Melody Clark, Ed.D, Academic Director of Distance Learning and Continuing Education, and Janet Staderman, Distance Learning Coordinator, have joined the eLearning organization in University Hall, Suite 400.

Their office brings experience in areas such as:
  • Assurance for Distance Learning State Authorization compliance.
  • The university’s Quality Matters program.
  • And the university’s Distance Learning website, a central informational portal for new students, faculty and staff.
“eLearning is about more than technology. It’s about partnerships and collaborations that support faculty and staff and promote student outcomes,” said Chris Edwards, Assistant Vice President for eLearning Technology. “Technology can enable 21st century teaching, learning and research. But, success involves a wide-ranging network that builds on the partnerships that engage the entire university in planning for the future."

The university-wide eLearning Committee launched its strategic planning process at a kickoff event on Feb 25 at U Square. Students, faculty and staff will work in partnership throughout the next 12-to-18 months to create the roadmap for UC’s Third Century vision to “excel in eLearning.”

For more information, or to get involved, please fill out the online eLearning Contact form.
