UC Blue Ash is Expanding Real-World Opportunities with Enhanced Internship Program

UC Blue Ash College has provided internship opportunities and career services for several years, but college leaders are taking steps to enhance these offerings and better serve students. One key initiative is naming professor Debra Howard as the new internship coordinator.

As a member of the Business and Economics Department, professor Howard offers a wealth of experience in preparing students for experiential learning. She has taught business courses for more than 25 years and has worked with employers to monitor student progress during internships. She earned both her bachelor’s in business education and master’s in education from Ball State University.

The internship coordinator role is a new position that expands on the work Howard does teaching courses that prepare UC Blue Ash students for internships. The courses cover topics that include effectively using social media sites such as LinkedIn, enhancing communication skills, exploring potential careers, and preparing for job interviews.

“The opportunity is ripe to continue to grow our internship program, and I am delighted that Deb will help lead this effort,” said Cady Short-Thompson, dean of UC Blue Ash. “We have so many bright and ambitious students who are hungry for real-world experience. When you combine that with the incredible business community we have right here in Blue Ash and across the region, there are countless opportunities for internships that benefit both our students and our community partners.”

To qualify for an internship at UC Blue Ash, a student must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher, complete at least 30 college credit hours and successfully complete an internship preparation course.

Along with the new internship coordinator position, the college is also adding more dedicated services through the UC Blue Ash Career Center, which serves current students and alumni. They can attend career fairs on campus, receive resume tips, participate in mock interviews and learn more about using
