UPDATED: Graphic Design All-Stars to Visit University of Cincinnati

This Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m.,

UC graduate Michael Bierut, a partner at the design studio, Pentagram, will speak in DAAP 4400.

Bierut, whose career includes 10 years working with Massimo Vignelli and 25 years as a partner at Pentagram immortalized his experience at UC in a 2006 essay,

"What’s That Crashing Sound, or, Eisenman in Cincinnati

," for

Design Observer

, the weblog that he co-founded. An AIGA Medalist, Bierut has worked with clients including Saks Fifth Avenue, Mohawk Paper Mills, the Walt Disney Company,

The New York Times

and the Yale School of Architecture. Earlier this year, he released the book

How To

, a retrospective that uses his most noteworthy projects to reveal his philosophy on graphic design. Pre-signed copies will be available for purchase at the event.

The presentation by French-Swiss designer Ruedi Baur, originally scheduled for Wednesday, November 18 has been postponed due to the current events affecting Baur's home city of Paris.

As the principal at

, Baur is known for high-profile identity, signage and wayfinding work for institutions and civic spaces including the Louvre, Centre Pompidou, the Köln Bonn Airport and the BMW Museum. Ruedi Baur’s visit to the School of Design, in which he planned to work with students on the social context of urban space signs, will be rescheduled for 2016.
