'Optical Hopscotch' - works by Craig Hill Featured in Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont

Optical Hopscotch, a series of works by Craig Hill will be featured in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont College from February 1-25, 2016. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Hill, a visiting assistant professor of art at Kenyon College, is inspired by the history of random collected objects and their messages of modern urban life.  His collections include, comic books, cheap plastic toys, vintage wallpaper, old magazines, unique scraps of wood, sewing patterns, and porcelain figurines. Just to name a few. The Optical Hopscotch series explores the temptations that confront us each day, from our collective childhood to our overworked, overstressed, and over stimulated adult existence.

Through the creative process, Hill assigns meaning to found objects and images. As meaning is assigned to the images and interrelationships develop, content and direction eventually emerge as a byproduct of process. He is interested in visual tension, whether through chance, the use of humor, odd relationships, or the reexamining, rehashing and reinterpretation of close encounters with life.

The Park National Bank Art Gallery is located in the Snyder building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive.  Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The gallery is closed weekends.
