COM Celebrates Humanism in Medicine Feb. 15-20
The UC College of Medicine Gold Humanism Honor Society will celebrate humanism in medicine the week for February 15-20, 2016 with several activities and events.
On Monday, Feb. 15, the daily theme is "National Solidarity Day for Compassionate Patient Care." Third-year medical students receive "compassionate care gift bags" featuring the UC COM Gold Humanism Honor Society "Ask" ID badge sticker. The sticker is designed to prompt patient centered dialog.
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the daily theme is "Putting Compassion into Action." Med students and others are asked to join in welcoming newly arriving refugees by helping to set up a family home and create a welcoming atmosphere as part of project spearheaded by Catholic Charities Refugees. On Wednesday, Feb. 17, the daily theme is "Reflecting on Humanism." The Journal Project is scheduled for release and students will have access to a digital workbook to promote self-reflection. The workbook consists of reflective prompts and movie and book recommendations based on certain pivotal moments, experiences, and transitions of the medical education experience.
On Thursday, Feb. 18, the daily theme is "Celebrating Humanism." Students and faculty are invited to bring their friends and bowl at Axis Alley as part of a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Refugee Resettlement program. Please RSVP by 02/15/16.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the daily theme is "Humanism through Art." A medical student art fair co-hosted by the UC College of Medicine Fine Arts in Medicine Club and the Gold Humanism Honor Society will be held in CARE/Crawley Atrium from noon to 2 p.m.
On Saturday, Feb. 20, there will be a "Day of Service." Catholic Charities Refugees volunteering. Join us in welcoming newly arriving refugees by helping to set up a family home and creating a welcoming atmosphere. For more information, please visit online.
