UC s 2016 Fashion Show Explores Student Design Process

The next generation of fashion designers will send fresh concepts and visions down the runway during the 65th annual University of Cincinnati DAAP (College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning) Fashion Design Show at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 29, in the UC's Campus Recreation Center. Macy’s will serve as the show’s presenting sponsor for the11th consecutive year.

“UC’s DAAP program has been recognized internationally for its development of aspiring young talent, and Macy’s is proud to once again sponsor this outstanding organization and future fashion designers,” said Jim McGowan, Macy’s district vice president.

Celebrating the theme “Process,” the event will showcase the world-renowned student design talent in the DAAP program. More than 30 runway models will wear 300+ one-of-a-kind designs on a 92-foot catwalk, accompanied by a live-mixed soundtrack from DJ Ruckus Robiticus of Los Angeles, California. Hair and makeup will be designed by students from The Aveda Fredric’s Institute, and the stage and lighting team from the University’s College-Conservatory of Music will bring a new aesthetic to the stage, incorporating an interactive LED wall.

A segment featuring fashion looks from Macy’s contemporary Impulse collections, styled by DAAP students, will kick off the show, followed by original student creations representing everything from childrenswear to bodywear, dresses to tailoring and knitwear. The finale will feature collections of senior capstone projects.

“The DAAP Fashion Show consistently is rated as one of the top 50 things to do in the region,” said Laurie Wilson, show director. “It is the ‘fastest flight’ to the fashion capitals of New York, Paris or Milan as you are transformed in space and time without leaving Ohio.”

In the heart of UC's 1819 Innovation Hub lies the Ground Floor Makerspace, an advanced and active hub of ingenuity where students, faculty and the community converge to bring their ideas to life. This includes being the birthplace of robots much like miniature race cars, combating fender to fender in an enclosed boxing ring. Combat robots like UC's Maximizer will again be fighting for first place in the National Havoc Robot League (NHRL) competition, slated for April 20.
