RSVP for UC Journalism Hall of Fame 2017 Induction of Alumni Greg Hand and Mary George Meiners

The University of Cincinnati Department of Journalism, in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, will induct Greg Hand and Mary George Meiners into its Hall of Fame as the Class of 2017.

 

Hand is best known as “the voice of UC” where he worked for over three decades as a news editor, science writer, assistant vice president for public relations, and university spokesperson. Before he retired in 2014, Hand accumulated multiple awards for his work, including recognitions from the Educational Press Association, Cincinnati Editors Association, and the Council for the Advancement & Support of Education. Prior to his tenure at UC, Hand was an editor, reporter and columnist for Western Hill Publishing Company in Cincinnati. He is a 1974 graduate of UC with a B.A. in English literature.

Meiners has built a distinguished career spanning three decades in media marketing, sales and entrepreneurship. Meiners was director of event marketing for Jacor Broadcasting, and then general sales manager at iHeartMedia before forming Meiners Group, an executive search firm, where she is CEO. She is currently launching a new magazine in her native city of Louisville, Kentucky. Meiners took her B.A. in English literature from UC in 1992 with certificates in journalism and creative Writing, and was editor-in-chief of The News Record.

Induction into the UC Journalism Hall of Fame is a special honor reserved for UC alumni who have excelled in the profession of journalism and media, or individuals who have made a significant contribution to the study of journalism at UC. Previous inductees include Luke Feck, William J. Keating, John Molloy and Mary Linn White (2009); Walt Handelsman and Ginny Hunter (2010); Jim Knippenberg and Henry Segal (2011); Dennis Janson (2012); Jon Hughes (2013); Kathy Doane and Cliff Radel (2014); Ray Locker, Lew Moores, and Kira Lisa Warren (2015); and Merrill Goozner (2016).

The 9th annual UC Journalism Hall of Fame and Awards Ceremony will be held March 31, 2017, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the UC Faculty Club (8th floor of the Richard E. Lindner Center in the Varsity Village/Athletics building).  Hors D’oeuvres and drinks are included, and a cash bar is available for guests 21 years of age or older.
